The Community Development Department provides administrative and financial oversight for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs. These activities include the Urban Entitlement Program. Urban Entitlement funding is designed to improve housing and neighborhoods in economically disadvantaged areas. This is accomplished by various community development activities and by sub-granting funding to area organizations through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnership (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Programs.

The Band of Locals is a community minded program banding together to support locally owned Mecosta, Osceola and Montcalm County businesses through discounts represented through purchasable Blue Bands at $10 per band. With these blue wrist bands, consumers will receive unlimited savings and discounts as there is no expiration date. Bands can be purchased at The Old Pioneer Store and Mecosta County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Discounts cover a wide variety of services and businesses, including but not limited to accounting, attorney, automotive, banking, chiropractic, clothing, healthcare/dentistry/eye care, insurance, nutrition classes, travel services and many, many more.
