Neighborhood Service Organization’s (NSO) compassionate and professional staff provides services that have impacted countless children, youth, adults, seniors, families, and communities since 1955. NSO’s empowering programs and services provide assistance for older adults with mental illness; children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities; homeless recovery services; housing development; community outreach for psychiatric emergencies; and volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups, and organizations.

Empowerment Plan is a Detroit-based non-profit that educates and employs homeless women to create coats that transform into sleeping bags, which are then given out to homeless individuals at no cost to them. Empowerment Plan also offers supportive services and educational programming to employees in an effort to elevate them into better jobs and to permanently break the cycle of homelessness.

Transitional housing is affordable supportive housing designed to provide housing and appropriate support services to persons who are homeless or who are close to homelessness. The transition is to help them be more self sufficient to move towards independent living on their own. Transitional housing locations are oftentimes called Halfway Houses. The naming of the two (Halfway House OR Transitional House) is oftentimes interchangeable.
