Founded in 1970 as a community mental health organization, Southwest Solutions' programs have grown to include adult literacy, services for the homeless and veterans, financial literacy and home-buyer counseling, job training, urban and minority entrepreneur programs, and neighborhood and community development, including development and operation of affordable housing.

The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program is funded by the United States Department of Veteran Affairs and is administered through Heartland Human Care Services to provide supportive services for low or very low-income veteran families residing in or transitioning to permanent housing. The services are designed to increase the housing stability of veterans and veteran families that are at-risk of or experiencing homelessness.

The clinic provides services to Veterans in Georgetown, Horry and surrounding counties. More complex diagnostic services, including specialty care and inpatient admission, are referred to Charleston.
