The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is an organization for US veterans that provides many assistance programs for vets and their families. Some VFW services include help with VA claims and separation benefits, financial grants, scholarships for student veterans, mental wellness services, insurance and financial programs, and more.
The Veterans Legal Support Center & Clinic (VLSC) provides free legal assistance when a veteran has been improperly denied benefits. VLSC works on all aspects of Veteran Benefits Administration claims, from the initial, factual intake to the technical representation of claims at the appellate level. Services such as Veteran’s benefits claims, service-connected benefits, survivor benefits, education benefits and pension benefits.
Veterans Helping Veterans Heal (VHVH), a private 501(c)(3) non-profit entity owned and managed by the North Carolina Housing Foundation (NCHF), operates a 24 bed extended-term housing program in Winston-Salem, NC for homeless male veterans. VHVH is a partner in the Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness and serves homeless veterans with mental health and/or substance abuse issues referred by the Veterans Administration (VA).
Veterans Connected connects veterans, families, resources, and events to help build the community. Veterans Connected directly assists veterans in need, and has provided a car for a veteran who needed transportation for work, paid for car insurance for a vet in need who was in danger of losing his job, provided a vet with a new furnance for their home, and more.
