Job Services

Along with resume building on Mondays, The Hope Center brings in someone to give people fresh haircuts on Wednesdays. On Fridays, local company Hammocks for Hope trains people how to make hammocks that will then be sold, teaching those who visit the center job skills they can use as well as paying them a living wage. The Hope Center has grown rapidly since it began occupying the basement of the church. According to Evans, it went from getting just a handful of people during this past spring to feeding 40 to 60 people on a regular basis. Because of this, the center, which prides itself in not taking government money, is looking for donations to continue its work.

The Readiness Center provides educational programs for low-income parents and their children with the goal of fostering self-esteem in both parents and children through opportunities in a setting where they can be successful. The Center has a 3-day preschool program (Tues-Thurs) where parents act as the teachers to their children, with an emphasis on literacy, math, and thinking skills. Teens can also mentor kids in the City Kids/afterschool and work programs, where they help children with homework, supervise them during playtime and snack times, and model appropriate behavior all while learning job skills for themselves.
